Recipe: Delicious Soya Keema Biryani

Soya Keema Biryani. This soya keema biryani is made similar to the mutton or chicken keema biryani from the hyderabadi cuisine. In any meat biryani recipe, the very purpose of using curd is to tenderize the meat. In vegetarian biryani recipes one can avoid using curd and use lemon juice just before serving to get the mild tang.

Soya Keema Biryani Soya Keema masala is a delicious vegetarian keema that can be prepared quickly and easily. In this recipe, you just need to soak soya granules in water, pulse it in the mixer and then cook it in masala along with the peas. Make the usual Indian masala with onions, ginger garlic paste, the spice powders, soya granules, and peas, mix. You can cook Soya Keema Biryani using 25 ingredients and 18 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Soya Keema Biryani

  1. You need of basmati/any Long grain rice.
  2. It's of soya chunks.
  3. You need of tomatoes.
  4. It's of ginger peeled.
  5. It's of garlic cloves peeled.
  6. It's of onions.
  7. Prepare of green peas.
  8. It's of Bay Leaves.
  9. It's of cinnamon stick.
  10. It's of green cardamom pods.
  11. Prepare of cloves.
  12. Prepare of star anise.
  13. You need of whole black peppercorns.
  14. You need of cumin seeds.
  15. You need of slit green chillies.
  16. It's of oil.
  17. Prepare of turmeric powder.
  18. Prepare of red chilli powder.
  19. It's of coriander powder.
  20. Prepare of garam /Biryani masala powder.
  21. Prepare of crushed dried fenugreek leaves/kasuri methi.
  22. It's of Juice of lemon.
  23. It's of chopped mint leaves.
  24. It's of Salt.
  25. You need of water.

This flavorful keema biryani, a spiced ground meat and rice dish, is going to be your new favorite one-pot meal. Keema biryani or keema pulao is a one-pot dish made up of spiced ground meat, long-grain basmati rice and aromatic spices. It's a weeknight favorite at our house as well as a dish we serve… To make soya keema, soak soya chunks or granules in hot water till they soften, discard the water and rinse in cold water, squeeze off the excess water and set aside. Pulse the chunks to whatever texture you desire - smooth or coarse.

Soya Keema Biryani step by step

  1. Soak the rice and soya chunks in a cup of water separately for 15 minutes.
  2. During the soaking period, chop the onions, tomatoes and make a paste of ginger and garlic.
  3. Post the soaking, drain the water completely from the rice and soya.
  4. Grate the soya fine in a blender (do not squeeze the water from the chunks).
  5. Heat the oil in a non stick pan.
  6. Temper with Bay leaf, cumin seeds, green chillies, cinnamon, peppercorns,cloves and star anise.
  7. After a few seconds, add the chopped onion, ginger-garlic paste and sauté until translucent.
  8. Add the tomatoes next followed by turmeric, red chilli, coriander powders.
  9. Mix well and cook covered until tomatoes soften.
  10. Add the grated soya and green peas. mix well.
  11. Add 1/2 cup water and cook covered for 5-7 minutes.
  12. Add the rice next followed by salt to taste.
  13. Mix well and add remaining water and bring it to boil.
  14. Reduce heat and cook covered until rice is cooked.
  15. Add the garam/Biryani masala, lemon juice, dried fenugreek leaves and mint leaves.
  16. Combine well and cook for another minute before taking off heat.
  17. Serve hot with a choice of your gravies, raitas, saalans, etc.
  18. My tip: this is a one pot Biryani recipe. I haven’t used the traditional browned onions/cooked in dum. If you prefer you can experiment the same with this recipe too!.
